When the SD was about to become unaffordable, than I ran the Crisco numbers aganist Amtrak. Amtrak is $30 down to SD. And that will offset all of the wear and tear and gas costs.

The poblem for us in the OC that all future trip to the OC will require to us rely on the community for local transportation and place to say overnight. The cost to Amatrak will not increase significantly but the price of gas will get far more expense than the cost to take Amtrak. So going to the SD is still uber-affordable, but we have to rely on the community for shelter and transportation because we can longer afford to use our own cars to drive to down San Diego.

This is not OUR fault but one of the consequences of the Peak Oil problem. The Peak Oil Proble mDOES exist but in my opinion, it is not as bad as the propets of doom tell you as. It makes getting to SD uber-affordable for us OC Burners but now there is much more reliance on the community for transportation and shelter than the past.
