I am posting here as well as RLD for those of you that may not be on the
Elysium Midsummer Festival Tribe ~ tribes.tribe.net/elysiummi...erfestival
There is more info as well on my Earth Guardians Unite Tribe as well ~ tribes.tribe.net/earthguardians (please join!)
Also, look for the TIPS post next, that will give you ideas on how to buy and prepare before packing for camping to eliminate having to sort a lot of recyclables and minimize the amount of trash too!!
So here is a list of do's and don'ts (please remember that it is me having to do, or undo what you can do ahead of time)
RECYCLING DO's, DO'S. DO'S (yes I said doodoo)
1) Recycle at your own camping area (www.bottlesandcans.com for free black boxes and for A LOT of other cool info)
2) Separate all recyclables from trash
3) Make sure all containers are empty before bringing them to the designated recycle "center"
4) Recycling that I will take: cans, aluminum, glass of all colors, plastic (no cardboard or paper as of yet) you'll have to do that part!
5) ALL GLASS needs to be separated: green in the green bin and brown in brown (when I went to recycle, from the long drive, the glass was broken and some was mixed, so I had to separate the broken stuff, nasty)
6) Encourage your friends to recycle and inform them of the rules
7) Provide extra bags for other people who may not have any, or re-use the same bags you had when you started, after donating to the center. I need THICK 55 gallon trash bags, the one's I bought from home depot (Contractor bags) were good enough for everything but glass.
8) ask questions and give feedback here or on the Earth Guardians Unite tribe!
RECYCLING DONT'S. DONT'S. DONT'S
1) Bring me bags of recyclables with trash, that sucks.
2) Bring containers with any liquid in them
3) Bring any paper products
Misc info:
When recycling at a center, you get more money inserting the containers individually than you do by weight.
Glass is the LEAST yielding in $ return
Aluminum is the MOST yielding
Plastic runs second yielding
Crushed aluminum and plastic can not be returned individually, they will have to be weighed
more to come...

Is there an $ difference in the returns? aka does 24 non crushed cans make more money than 24 crushed cans weighted out?

Re: Recycling Do's and Don'ts for Elysium!
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:12 PMhaving to weigh the containers is WAY less money than feeding them individually in the machine by hand.
Plus if you have plastic caps on the plastic containers or a large amount of DIRT, they can penalize you and give you less per weight.
There was ALOT of dirt in the load I had -

Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:13 PMeither way, crushed or not if you are weighing it, it would be the same price. Is that what you meant? -

Re: Recycling Do's and Don'ts for Elysium!
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 2:41 PMnope I meant if you got a return per can how much would say a case of cans be, versus how much for the weight of a case of cans

weight price for aluminum I believe is something like $1.56 a pound and a case would not amount to anything close to that.
