Pride: Report to the community, part 2.

The SLOPs operational plan has been approved by Pride, and new SLOPs section has been added to their volunteer website.

Some unanticipated problems have arisen, among them:
- the question of how do I find out who has volunteered and get in touch,
- the arbitray deadline of 6/30 for volunteers
- who do I report to at Pride?
- how to integrate Trashcomm (call center for trash) into their system.
(I just made Trashcomm up, cuz it seemed to fill a gap.)

Some unexpected consequences have occurred.
- the proposal to have a slush fund so the LLC can support good ideas quickly.
- a debate in the community about “who are we?”
- a chance to indicate my extreme (and harsh) position on the “transparency issue.”
- some introspection about leadership, efficiency and empowerment of others.
Mussolini – the early 20th century Italian dictator whose Fascist party gave us the term – had his proponents and opponents. At that time the Italian railroad system was a mess. Among the justifications for dictatorship was “He made the trains run on time.”
I look at what I’m doing and want to make sure I do things better than that, in a micro-political sense. (Yes, these are political questions any community faces. Most never consciously consider them, and lapse into something much like baboon troops, led by alpha males and females.)
I can do better than that. And the hell with trains. I’m gonna get someone to invent levitation. (Grunt. Scratch.)

I think the Pride organization is looking at all this in astonishment, for several reasons.
- As a group, we are not homophobic.
- We (or some of us) are willing to put energy into backing up our values.
- We are smart and good at putting projects together with minimal resources and on the fly. We? You think all the ideas that led to the SLOPs op plan were mine?
- That a heterosexual with a really skewed sense of humor is pushing this idea.

As of 6:00 PM yesterday, one person has signed on for 3 five hour shifts. 21 slots left, that I gotta fill by Tuesday. Somehow.
